The Sacrifice of Rock & Roll - Sal COZ Costa of My Darkest Days

Moments before Sal COZ Costa from My Darkest Days jumps on a plane for the European leg of the tour he was kind enough to spend a few minutes with me. My Darkest Days recently played at Rock on the Range and Sal described the experience as an “awesome” one. “We get out on stage and there was a sea of people…it was awesome” says Sal. Sal then goes on about how he always wanted to play with Korn, “I was a little skater kid and skated to Korn’s Freak on a Leash and now we are playing the same festival as Korn.”

As many bands struggle to become heard they seemed to always want the answer from a band that has “made it” in this industry. “You have to sacrifice a lot to get a chance to be heard” stated Sal. He then goes on to say how he gave up his job, his social life and even friends to push to make it in this business “you have to be ok to sacrifice...not everyone gets that chance.”

As we finished up the interview I asked if there were any crazy tour stories that he would be willing to share. Sal then goes on “oh yeah, we were on tour and we hit a patch of ice and the bus flipped over and everyone was ejected from their seats and then had to climb out of the bus while it was on its side.” He then went into how he had to climb out of a six inch window and he was the first one out of the bus, “we were all shocked at what had happened.”

I mentioned to Sal how great it is that he and the rest of the band make sure to spend time with the fans and get to know them at shows. I then touched on how he had heard about FallenBlue.org and he explained to me that “well bands talk to each other” and that the name Fallen Blue has come up a lot recently and he wanted to get involved. Thank you Sal and watch out for those ice patches.
