I had the pleasure of speaking with Phil Collen, guitarist with Def Leppard. Among being an iconic artist in one of the most influential bands in the 80s and 90s, Phil has formed another band Manraze. Among the bands members are two other iconic artists, Paul Cook from The Sex Pistols and Simon Laffy from the band Girl. Now talk about a triple threat. You have three of the most influential artists joining forces in a phenomenal band...needless to say history is in the making.
When I spoke to Phil regarding how they came up with such a different sound from the bands they have played in, Phil explained that it was easy to have the freedom to truly express themselves in a different manner. The sound just happened when the three of them came together to jam. Phil states, “I have always loved the raw power of the Pistols.” Well, apparently the stars were aligned when Phil literally ran into Paul on the street and the idea of the band Manraze was born.
Now when you ask an iconic figure if there are any interesting tour stories they would be willing to share you really never know what type of story you will get. In the case of Phil, he explained that he and the rest of the band have so many fans and many of them are the police as well as border control, customs, NYPD, and many more. After I explained exactly what Fallen Blue does Phil expressed that the cause was a very important and noble one.
So for all of you Def Leppard fans and soon to be Manraze fans you can check out Phil’s new band at www.manraze.com
