Minutes before Nick Avila from Powerglove took the stage at the 9:30 Club, he spent a few minutes with me to describe how the band came up with their sound. Starting off as most bands do, Powerglove took it very serious and had a melodic death metal sound. As the band continued they decided that they didn’t want to take metal so serious so they went after the video game crowd. By doing this the band achieved a sound so original that the die hard gamers out there could not ignore what metal has turned into. With influences such as Gwar and Visual K it is no surprise that this band is one of the most entertaining bands out there. As the band cultivated their sound they really didn’t have a plan except to enjoy themselves. The band being friends for fifteen years also helped them to really enjoy themselves when performing and come up with the type of show they would like to go to.
With the bands album “Saturday Morning Apocalypse,” it is understandable how they broke into the industry and of course are now playing the Summer Slaughter Tour with so many great bands. For most bands out there they have to jump through many hoops to get noticed. Powerglove did the same thing as well as master the art of pushing themselves out there. For all of the fans out there we are glad they did.
Keep on rocking guys!
