Fallen Blue is Lacuna Coiled

In the midst of their 2012 run on Dave Mustaine's acclaimed Gigantour, we were fortunate enough to catch up with Lacuna Coil's Andrea Ferro and Cristiano Migliore. Their performance at Madison Square Garden was phenominal, so it was a great honor to catch them again on a headlining off-show in Baltimore, Maryland. In the interview we discussed everything from their latest album, Dark Adrenaline, which contains their melodic and metal-infused cover of the R.E.M. classic, "Losing My Religion", to being the most sucessful metal band from their native country, Italy.

According to Andrea and Cristiano, Dark Adrenaline, is their greatest achievement yet, as a band. "As a band, we were all going through the different hardships that every person faces, whether it is death of a family member or the ending of relationships. We were all in a negative mood, so the whole concept of this album is one that coming is from a dark place. We wanted to transform our negativity into something powerful, and this album was our therapy. And we couldn't be happier with the outcome." When I brought up the artwork and the concept of the 'Andrenaline', Cristiano went on further by saying that "the album is truly a full package, with the music and artwork all connected with the idea of this black liquid flowing through our bodies. It was a lot of fun with the artwork because we were able to really push the boundaries."

The aforementioned, Dark Adrenaline, is a great album, and it was refreshing to see a band so proud of their work and anxious to get out on the road to play the new music. Andrea explained that "for Gigantour, we are playing a lot of the new songs like "My Spirit" and "Kill The Light". Its funny, because we never really do a soundcheck, so when we do get there on the stage we just start playing with no worries in the world. For us, it is exciting to play the new songs. Some bands may be wary of the new stuff being played live, but even our famous songs and fan favorites were once new as well. It was incredible to see how large the crowds are for us as the opener on this tour, and the reaction to the new music has been great." When Christina Scabbia dedicated "My Spirit" to the late-great, Peter Steele of Type-O Negative, at the New York City show, it was amazing to hear the reception from the crowd, as Lacuna Coil could not have written a better song for their friend.

Coming from Italy, Lacuna Coil has really transcended the music scene from their native land. "When we started out, we played the local clubs or bars in Italy, and not once did we think we would be as big as we are now, which is something we never take for granted. When people think of Italian music, they think of the great Luciano Pavarotti or Andrea Bocelli. Hopefully we can give inspiration to other bands like us to push the boundaries and be successful." As we wrapped up the interview, we asked the Andrea and Cristiano if they had any relatives or friends in law enforcement, and they both said that they have friends that are in law enforcement, to include members of a SWAT team in Chicago. Andrea mentioned that "the police in Italy are much different than here in the States,  but nonetheless we respect all the same. We dont do anything too crazy!"
